Non- Profits

Non-profits

Newer non-profit organizations are often filled with a zeal to pursue their purpose. And with COVID- 19 having impacted so many vulnerable communities, it’s even more urgent for non-profits to start doing what they can to help.

But what established for-purpose organizations understand is that they must have everything in order before they head out doing good for their intended community.

So, before you start, here are a few insurance tips learned the hard way by many established non-profits. This applies whether your non-profit offers elder care, provides meals, or supports youth sports teams.

Include insurance in your start-up budget

Too often, non-profits view insurance as an afterthought. It should be included in your budget from the outset. Make sure you get multiple quotes so that you have a realistic budget to start with.

Get your insurance early

The longer you have insurance, the easier it is to qualify for additional benefits in the future as your non-profit expands.

Insure for your operations

Not because the likelihood of a particular incident may be low, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t insure for it. It’s better to be prepared rather than not. For example, if you offer elder care services or are involved in a youth program, make sure that you check the records of the persons you’re employing before applying for insurance. Or, if you handle donor information, protect your business with cybersecurity related policies.
